Biography
Peter J Smith - Managing Partner
Peter is a Senior Executive with extensive global experience that includes a track record of managing organizational change, resulting in growth and increased profitability in the technology industry. Currently, Peter is the Managing Partner of The Meaford Group, which specializes in Go-to-Market strategy and execution for technology and software companies. He currently coaches a number of CEO's, COO's and other senior executives of early stage and emerging companies. As well, Peter is an Executive-in-Residence at the Innovation Factory.
Prior to starting his own business, Peter was Executive Vice-President & General Manager of the Automated Decision Solutions division, within Information Resources, Inc (IRI), reporting to the CEO. Information Resources is recognized as the pre-eminent provider of market research information and services for the Consumer Packaged Goods and Retail industries in the United States and selected other countries around the world. The Automated Decision Solutions group is a $90M (USD), 200 person organization made up of sales, pre-sales, project management, consulting and development in the US, Europe and India.
Before IRI, Peter was at PeopleSoft, Inc. from 1996 to 2005. From joining until 2000, he was a Sales Vice President in the Canadian Sales organization and in the North American Education & Government Industry Business Unit. In these roles, Peter led sales teams during PeopleSoft's high growth years, building solution selling organizations that worked with many of Canada's largest organizations.
In 2000, he was promoted to Canadian Regional Vice President & Managing Director for Global Services and became a member of the PeopleSoft Global Services Executive Leadership team. From 2000 to 2004, Pete and his Canadian team more than doubled the revenue, margin & staff in the Canadian region. Peter was responsible for the management and performance of a team of over 175 consultants, sales people and managers in six offices across Canada and over $40M in revenue.
In April of 2004, Peter led the team that developed the strategy and business model for the North American Consulting Resources reorganization and executed the transition to this new model. Peter was promoted to Group Vice-President, North American Consulting Resources and oversaw a team of 1400 consultants and managers that generated revenues of over $500,000,000 (US$).
Prior to joining PeopleSoft, Peter was with IBM Canada for 17 years in technical, sales, consulting and management positions
Peter received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1979, a Masters of Business Administration from McMaster University in 1987 and is a Professional Engineer in Ontario. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of HeadCount Corporation, CSDC Systems and gShiftLabs.
